Day 10<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n

We woke up around 05:<\/span>\u00a030.<\/span><\/p>\n

It’s still\u00a0snowing<\/span>\u00a0outside.<\/span>\u00a0The snow is everywhere.<\/span>\u00a0I suffer from a terrible headache.<\/span>\u00a0I’m\u00a0taking<\/span>\u00a0an\u00a0aspirin<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0We’re<\/span>\u00a0in a\u00a0dilemma<\/span>\u00a0here.<\/span>\u00a0Finally, seven and\u00a0Christos<\/span>\u00a0(8) decide under\u00a0snowfall<\/span>\u00a0and light fog to\u00a0advance<\/span>\u00a0to Lobuche\u00a0(4928<\/span>\u00a0m)<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0We\u00a0pass<\/span>\u00a0a few\u00a0small<\/span>\u00a0streams, an uphill and a wooden bridge and\u00a0arrive<\/span>\u00a0at Dugla\u00a0(4620<\/span>\u00a0m)<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I’m dressed warmly in a Gore-Tex jacket and a\u00a0kagul*, so the backpack won’t get wet. Only my eyes are exposed. In my hands, I wear gloves. Fortunately, I have a cane from a tree branch that Christos gave me before Namche Bazar **. It would help if I had a baton (cane for climbers). I will make sure that I will buy a 3-piece snap.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2419″ img_size=”full” onclick=”link_image”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Dugla<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0is<\/span>\u00a0not a\u00a0village<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0It includes only\u00a02 or 3\u00a0lodges.\u00a0From\u00a0Pheriche<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0to\u00a0Lobuche<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0there’s<\/span>\u00a0snow<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As\u00a0far<\/span>\u00a0as\u00a0Dugla<\/span>\u00a0goes<\/span>,\u00a0I<\/span>‘m doing all right.<\/span><\/p>\n

After\u00a0Dugla<\/span>, up to\u00a0Lobuche<\/span>\u00a0is uphill,\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0walk slowly and with\u00a0difficulty<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0have<\/span>\u00a0such intense palpitations and\u00a0think<\/span>\u00a0about going back sometimes.<\/span><\/p>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2435″ img_size=”full” onclick=”link_image”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We\u00a0began<\/span>\u00a0at 09:00 and\u00a0reached<\/span>\u00a0at\u00a0Lobuche<\/span>\u00a0at 13:<\/span>\u00a030.<\/span>\u00a0The\u00a0jopkio<\/span>\u00a0* * *<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0had\u00a0already<\/span>\u00a0come and our\u00a0luggage<\/span>\u00a0was\u00a0already<\/span>\u00a0here<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Lobuche<\/span>\u00a0includes<\/span>\u00a03-4\u00a0lodges<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0We ended up in the first one that was big enough.<\/span>\u00a0He\u00a0had<\/span>\u00a0beds<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0bunk beds<\/span>, and his\u00a0great<\/span>\u00a0merit\u00a0was<\/span>\u00a0that in the\u00a0chamber<\/span>\u00a0where the\u00a0beds<\/span>\u00a0were<\/span>\u00a0(and\u00a0served<\/span>\u00a0at the same time<\/span>\u00a0as a\u00a0dining room<\/span>)<\/span>\u00a0he was continually burning a\u00a0stove<\/span>!<\/span><\/p>\n

Sure, it was\u00a0smoking<\/span>, but better been\u00a0smoked<\/span>\u00a0than frosted.<\/span>\u00a0But the\u00a0toilet<\/span>\u00a0was<\/span>\u00a0the worst I have\u00a0ever<\/span>\u00a0seen<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0No one was going there, and we\u00a0preferred<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0countryside<\/span>\u00a0with overnight snowfall.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2470″ img_size=”full” onclick=”link_image”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I<\/span>\u00a0fell back on the\u00a0bed<\/span>\u00a0like\u00a0almost<\/span>\u00a0everyone else.<\/span>\u00a0On the way\u00a0(at 11:00)<\/span>\u00a0I had a second aspirin because I suffered\u00a0an<\/span>\u00a0intense headache.<\/span>\u00a0Gently and\u00a0Tuesday<\/span>\u00a0at 14:00 and I covered in the sleeping bag which, fortunately, throughout\u00a0<\/span>the route did not disappoint me.<\/span><\/p>\n

Heart rate was about 120 at\u00a0rest<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Gregory was\u00a0turning<\/span>\u00a0in the mattress, I was getting\u00a0dizzy<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0The terrible headache would never go away.<\/span>\u00a0Hot<\/span>\u00a0lemon tea couldn’t\u00a0make<\/span>\u00a0me feel better.<\/span>\u00a0At the same moment, I felt sick.<\/span>\u00a0All the\u00a0symptoms<\/span>\u00a0led to the\u00a0conclusion<\/span>\u00a0that I appeared the Mountain\u00a0Sickness****<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0medium form yet.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I<\/span>\u00a0discussed<\/span>\u00a0it with\u00a0Christos\u00a0and concluded that the\u00a0best<\/span>\u00a0thing to\u00a0do<\/span>\u00a0if\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0wanted<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0see<\/span>\u00a0my\u00a0children<\/span>\u00a0again, and not to\u00a0risk<\/span>\u00a0pulmonary or cerebral edema (the next stages)\u00a0was<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0go<\/span>\u00a0lower.<\/span><\/p>\n

Christos\u00a0suggested<\/span>\u00a0to me go<\/span><\/span>\u00a0down<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>Dugla<\/span>\u00a0and return<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>next<\/span>\u00a0day<\/span>, but I knew better, and\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0prefer<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0go back<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0Pheriche\u00a0and never<\/span>\u00a0return.<\/span>\u00a0How right\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0was<\/span>\u00a0in that\u00a0decision<\/span>\u00a0was\u00a0shown<\/span>\u00a0by the\u00a0fact<\/span>\u00a0that it\u00a0took<\/span>\u00a0me two\u00a0days<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0recover<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the\u00a0help<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0Christos,\u00a0<\/span>I<\/span>\u00a0found<\/span>\u00a0a porter and I came\u00a0back,<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0snowfall<\/span>\u00a0always, running almost to\u00a0Pheriche<\/span>.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We\u00a0started<\/span>\u00a0at 17:<\/span>\u00a000 and reached at 17:<\/span>\u00a030.<\/span>\u00a0In the end, it was murky outside, so I used the headlights.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fortunately, my porter had\u00a0taken<\/span>\u00a0apart the\u00a0POLO bag<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0backpack<\/span>, so I went down without a\u00a0load<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, I\u00a0consider that we\u00a0had<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0prepare<\/span>\u00a0for a mountain excursion in the\u00a0winter<\/span>\u00a0rather than trekking.<\/span>\u00a0Fortunately,\u00a0most<\/span>\u00a0of us, disobeying\u00a0Christos<\/span>,\u00a0took<\/span>\u00a0winter<\/span>\u00a0jackets,\u00a0boots<\/span>\u00a0and other\u00a0winter<\/span>\u00a0clothes with us.<\/span><\/p>\n

This\u00a0morning<\/span>,\u00a0Sotiris<\/span>\u00a0went<\/span>\u00a0to the Australian doctor and\u00a0gave<\/span>\u00a0him\u00a0antibiotics<\/span>\u00a0and cough medicine.<\/span>\u00a0Of\u00a0course<\/span>, now he’s going up without a\u00a0backpack<\/span>\u00a0and also, with a medical report.<\/span>\u00a0In my\u00a0hurry<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0leave<\/span>, I\u00a0left<\/span>\u00a0POLAR’s winter jacket in\u00a0Lobuche<\/span>, which\u00a0Grigoris<\/span>\u00a0fortunately found and\u00a0brought<\/span>\u00a0to me later in\u00a0Dingboche<\/span>.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”2379″ img_size=”full” onclick=”link_image”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I\u00a0reached<\/span>\u00a0at “Hotel\u00a0Himalaya<\/span>” where the 3 remaining trekkers had\u00a0stayed<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Of\u00a0course<\/span>, its title fools\u00a0everyone.<\/span>\u00a0It\u00a0was<\/span>\u00a0just a little more bearable than the previous one.<\/span>\u00a0The\u00a0moisture<\/span>\u00a0in the\u00a0layers<\/span>\u00a0was\u00a0the same!<\/span><\/p>\n

I<\/span>\u00a0fell<\/span>\u00a0into\u00a0Sherpas stew<\/span>\u00a0and various\u00a0soups<\/span>\u00a0and after about an\u00a0hour<\/span>\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0came to.<\/span><\/p>\n

I<\/span>\u00a0gave<\/span>\u00a0the Porter 300 rupees.<\/span>\u00a0He had\u00a0asked<\/span>\u00a0for 250.<\/span><\/p>\n

****\u00a0Mountain Sickness:<\/strong> The\u00a0higher<\/span>\u00a0we<\/span>\u00a0go<\/span>, the\u00a0more<\/span>\u00a0our\u00a0body<\/span>\u00a0adapts<\/span>\u00a0with our\u00a0breathing<\/span>\u00a0getting faster and deeper.<\/span>\u00a0It\u00a0means<\/span>\u00a0the air pressure is low when\u00a0we<\/span>‘re<\/span>\u00a0at\u00a0high<\/span>\u00a0altitude<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0With the\u00a0breath<\/span>\u00a0we<\/span>\u00a0take<\/span>\u00a0less\u00a0oxygen<\/span>, so\u00a0hikers<\/span>\u00a0suffer<\/span>\u00a0from\u00a0altitude sickness<\/span>\u00a0because they don’t\u00a0have<\/span>\u00a0an\u00a0extra<\/span>\u00a0day to acclimate while they’re<\/span>\u00a0at\u00a0high<\/span>\u00a0altitude<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0The\u00a0altitude<\/span>\u00a0is\u00a0beginning<\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span>affect<\/span>\u00a0us from 2000 meters above.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The below photos are from the whole journey![\/vc_column_text][vc_gallery interval=”0″ images=”2457,2443,2439,2433,2429,2413,2409,2407,2383,2405,2403,2401,2399,2375″ img_size=”full”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Some of the souvenirs he brought from Nepal were some religious musical instruments, a small wooden pagoda, a prayer Mill, a mask and of course a statue of Buddha.[\/vc_column_text][vc_gallery interval=”0″ images=”2425,2415,2421,2449″ img_size=”full”][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A few\u00a0words<\/span>\u00a0from me:<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

I<\/span>\u00a0hope<\/span>\u00a0you\u00a0found<\/span>\u00a0these<\/span>\u00a0passages<\/span>\u00a0as impressive as\u00a0I<\/span>\u00a0did<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0Of\u00a0course<\/span>, the\u00a0conditions<\/span>\u00a0there are different after all\u00a0these<\/span>\u00a0years<\/span>, but the mountain remains imposing and dangerous.<\/span>\u00a0For me, it’s a dream to\u00a0walk<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0these<\/span>\u00a0areas<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0For\u00a0years<\/span>\u00a0I<\/span>‘ve\u00a0seen<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0picture<\/span>\u00a0of Everest hanging on my living room wall.<\/span>\u00a0I hope that I will be enough close\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0see<\/span>\u00a0it.<\/span>\u00a0That’s enough for me.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
